Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – American Legion Post 291 donated $1,300 to Orchard Knob Elementary School to help them stock their care closet. The American Legion recently adopted the school after learning that some students were in need of clothing, school supplies and food assistance. The group hoped to raise $200 for their donation, but what they received far exceeded their expectations.

Tommy Mitchell, from The American Legion, said, “I had put it out that we needed a $200 donation to give to the school. But then I was overwhelmed with emotion when we came up with the $1,300. It really was something special that day, in the immediate. So that’s why we’re here today, just to make that donation to them for their care closet.”
