My mother

Grafton , ND

My mother’s father served in World War I, and later all the males in the family served in the military. (My grandfather had a bullet ricochet off his helmet and gave me the helmet, and when I left home she gave it to the town museum.)
Every day she hung the flag in the morning and took it in at dusk.
When the church congregation wanted to quit displaying the flag, she and a vet opposed it.
She and my sister served in the American Legion Auxiliary.
My mother loved to volunteer. She gave many hours to the Second Hand Store and Club she went to the Hospital Ladies Quilting and Crafts Club. For all this she won the Second Hand’s Volunteer of the Year Award. My mother passed away in 2014 at 96.
