American Legionnaires in South Korea joined veterans, active-duty servicemembers, leaders of veterans' organizations and others celebrated Veterans Day with a ceremony at the Army Memorial Monument at Camp Humphreys, South Korea on November 11, 2023. United States Forces Korea paid tribute to all U.S. military veterans during the Veterans Day ceremony hosted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Army Major General David Lesperance spoke during the ceremony. Maj. Gen. Lesperance is the Director of Operations for U.S. Forces Korea, U.N. Command and Combined Forces Command. "Veterans answer the call to duty in times of darkness and danger as well as times of peace and prosperity,” Lesperance concluded. “We have been blessed with those willing to take up arms whenever and wherever the universal rights of people have been threatened... We honor the brave men and women that stepped forward to defend our nation today. We also honor Korean and United Nations member states veterans for their service as well,” he said. “Veterans’ collective actions are a debt we cannot repay. We must renew our commitment to remember and honor all our veterans.”
American Legionnaires: Jamal Cannon, Commander of American Legion Post 37, William Scafe, Commander American Legion Post 37, and William Beatty, Vice-Commander/Service Officer American Legion Post 38, participated in a floral tribute and wreath laying along with VFW leaders, leaders of veterans’ organizations and Maj.
