V-5/V-12 World War II Navy Memorial on Doane University campus

Lincoln, NE

Our government instituted V-5 and V-12 training programs on college campuses for U.S. naval line and aviation officers in the early 1940s during World War II. One such program was offered at Doane University in Crete, Neb. Here are two photographs of a memorial for the sailors in the program on the Doane campus. I have included the winter photograph so you can see a bit of the ship's anchor. I understand that the anchor was hauled from the Gulf Coast for the memorial by a cadet alum.
