American Legion Prairie Du Pont Post 485 U.S. flag retirement

American Legion Prairie Du Pont Post 485 of Dupo, Ill., conducted a flag retirement ritual for Flag Day June 14, 2020. Around 200 flags were retired including POW/MIA, military branch and Illinois state flags. Flag remnants were respectfully buried at a discreet location after retirement. Adjutant Alan R. Hoock performed the service at the post home along with Sons of The American Legion Squadron 485 commander Victor Heitman and vice commander Jon Harbison. The ritual was held at the James J. Wolf U.S. Flag Retirement Site located at the front of the post. The site consists of a retirement pit guarded by a statue of a military member in combat gear.
