Training the next generation

Anna, TX

For many years we were leaders in Cub Scouts and worked to teach respect for the flag to the young boys. Each spring and fall we held campouts, and each den would learn to call out and properly raise, lower and fold the flag. We also performed flag retirement ceremonies in a reverent way at the end of our campfire on Saturday night. These are precious memories I will carry with me for the rest of my life. This picture shows my husband Mike, a Desert Storm vet, teaching our son how to fold a flag at his very first campout in first grade. Our son went on to become an Eagle Scout and has enlisted in the Army, as have many of the boys we led.
