Since its creation in 1925, the American Legion Veterans & Children Foundation has delivered over $30 million in financial assistance for disabled veterans, military families and young people who lost parents in service to our nation. Income from the foundation investments is used to fund Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation programs and Temporary Financial Assistance, which provides funds to minor children of active duty or American Legion members.
Today, Aug 13, 2020: my walk, in support of The American Legion's 100 Miles For Hope campaign, which was
brought about to bring attention and help to the Veterans & Children Foundation, I thought was going to be another short day, maybe a 5.5-mile day. I started my walk needing 18.2 miles to my 100-mile completion, so after the 2.5-mile mark, I just kept walking. I had a long walk to American Legion Post 9, New London, Conn., from American Legion Post 112, Montville, Conn., and back. I walked 20.2 miles today, bringing my to-date walking total to 102.2 miles and completing my 100 miles at Post 112. OHHH RAHHHH.
The American Legion provides a lot of aid, to individual servicemembers (active duty and former active duty) and their families every year. The American Legion does this through financial aid and a multitude of assistance programs. The American Legion national commander, asked for help to raise/replenish much-needed financial assistance for the Veterans & Children Foundation, so the American Legion Family can continue to do what we do best: HELP VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
