Drafted for Memorial Day

Perrysburg Post 28 - Perrysburg, OH

Ohio Post 28 in Perrysburg, Ohio, prepared a Memorial Day commemorative using the military version of the 'draft.'

A committee planned the program with the goal of including as many different Legionnaires as needed. As happens in many Legion posts, it is difficult to get volunteers for any activity and Memorial Day is no exception. So Legionnaires were 'drafted.' Some of the ‘draftees’ hadn’t been to a meeting in years, others were regular meeting attendees.

Thirty-one slots needed to be filled. Of all the ‘draftees’ assigned, only four asked to be excused due to medical problems. They were immediately replaced by other draftees.

Yes, Post 28 ‘draftees’ responded admirably, just as many had done when they received their military ‘draft’ letter.
