Lander - On Sunday, Aug. 22, 96-year-old U.S. Air Force veteran and Post 33 member John Tribby had the opportunity to take one more ride in a WWII vintage airplane. The flight was part of a nationwide program sponsored by Dream Flights, offering our WWII veterans another chance to fly. Founder, president and pilot Darryl Fisher was on hand for the event. “Our purpose is to give back to those who gave so much,” said Fisher. Launched Aug. 1, 2021, Operation September Freedom is the largest barnstorming event in U.S. history, and the first and only Dream Flight tour dedicated to honoring the men and women who fought in the war that changed the world. Operation September Freedom Dream Flights has provided nearly 300 flights and hopes to complete 1,000 by the end of September. There is no charge for the flights; Dream Flights are funded by sponsorships and donations and supported by volunteer pilots, crew members, maintenance and administrative staff. John is currently a resident at Westward Heights Care Center. The care center staff was responsible for arranging and coordinating this event, which was attended by many post and community members.
