Under a clear blue autumn sky, the students at Smithfield's Pleasant View Elementary School honored the veterans and servicemembers in our community. After singing our national anthem, pledging allegiance to our flag and welcoming the guests, the names of family members of the students, teachers and staff were read. The students sang "I'm Proud to Be an American," "God Bless America," and the tribute concluded with each of the more than 400 students thanking and shaking the hands of every veteran and servicemember in attendance.
