Nurse Sandra Martin, setting up and guard duty at hospital tent.

All patients are special

As an Army nurse, I cannot say that any one of my patients was more "special" than another. All my patients came into my care for me to treat them equally and help them to heal and be healthy. I served as an orthopedic nurse for a time and as a nurse in a mobile hospital unit for a time. I gave each of my patients my very best quality of care. I would say, however, that as an orthopedic nurse I gave a few young soldiers an extra lecture. I saw plenty of young GIs come in with broken legs from motorcycle accidents or reckless activity where injury could have been prevented. Those guys would get a little lecture from me about how they couldn't serve their country if they were reckless and broke themselves!
