Malta Bend Memorial Post 558 will be conducting a flag retirement ceremony at the post on Wednesday, June 14, at 7 p.m. Members of the public are welcome to attend the solemn ceremony and are also encouraged to bring flags that are soiled and beyond repair. A flag retirement ceremony is a ceremony for the disposal of unserviceable flags. The purpose of The American Legion in adopting this ceremony was to encourage proper respect for the flag of the United States and to provide for disposal in a dignified manner. June 14, Flag Day, is the traditional date to hold flag retirements.
