Post remembers namesake on 115th anniversary of his death

Merchantville, NJ

Cpl. Fredrick W. Grigg enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 11, 1917, at 22. He died on Oct. 15, 1918, of wounds received in combat.
One year later on Aug. 11, 1919, a group of veterans in Grigg’s hometown of Merchantville, N.J., gathered to establish an American Legion post, F. W. Grigg Post 68. The post continues to serve Merchantville and surrounding communities.
On Oct. 15, 2023, post members gathered in front of the home where Frederick had grown up, at 46 West Chestnut Ave., to remember Grigg on the 115th anniversary of his death. Past Post Commander John Brouse read a moving bio of Grigg’s life from growing up in Merchantville to his death in France. Several members of the Grigg family were present and helped place a “Lest We Forget” flag and memorial weather in his memory.
