Having a God-given talent as an artist, my son Mike Sekletar (SAL member Post 118), Amherst, Ohio, has donated his time helping in the post's kitchen.
His three larger-than-life military murals in downtown Amherst have made national recognition. The community and our local VFW Post 1662 and American Legion Post 118 have made this project a success story. The Feb. issue of our American Legion magazine will feature his latest mural, Korea. This will be the second story that has been published in the magazine. The first, "Iwo Jima," was featured in the Jan. 2012 edition.
We are both very proud of the fact that we hold a Veterans Day tribute ceremony Nov. 11 every year (five thus far), located in a public parking lot next to the mural wall.
We are very thankful to all those who served or are now serving our country. We will continue to follow through with our goals:
1- Promote the Arts 2- Preserve Military History
