Walter W. Craig ALA Post 354 raised $3,500 to give Christmas gifts to the 60 homeless veterans at Mechling-Shakley Veteran Center. Cindy Morgan, president of the post, said, "Originally, I had hoped to raise $1,800, but the donations just kept coming in from organizations, church groups and individuals. It is a great thing this community has done.
"We gave each homeless veteran essential gifts, and with the money left over we can give them gifts at Easter."
The veterans are referred by the local VA homeless program to stay at Mechling-Shakley Veteran Center, located in Cownanville, Pa.
