James B. Whipple Post 86 renovation

Wilton, CT

On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2017, Post 86 held an open house to celebrate our newly renovated meeting hall.
Our building, located at 112 Old Ridgefield Rd., Wilton, CT 06897, was originally built in 1939 by many charter members and their families. The Legionnaires pooled their money, purchased the land in 1927, raised money, then donated their time, skills in construction and materials to build this building. It is believed to be the oldest building in Wilton still used for its original purpose.
For the renovation, several members pitched in and donated their time to clean out, clean up and repair, paint and re-supply our main hall. We now use this room for our monthly meetings and social events, such as the local town Halloween and Christmas walks with children. We also host live sporting-event viewing as well as movie nights to show various military documentaries, fiction and non-fiction movies. As a result, we are seeing more participation by more members at post events as well.
