Josey Augustin - a Girl Scout on a mission

The Colony, TX

Josey Augustin, a Cadet in Girl Scout Troop 5215 and freshman in high school in The Colony, Texas, is a remarkable young lady. In June 2019 she set out on a personal mission: to give veterans warmth and comfort at senior homes. In a short three-month period, she made 34 blankets and coordinated with Holley-Riddle Post 21 Finance Officer Clyde Ding to select a location where veterans would be able to benefit from these gifts. The blankets were delivered to the VA Community Living Center in Bohnam, Texas, which provides long-term care services to veterans.

At this young age, Josey understands how important it is to honor and respect veterans for their service, as several members of her family including her grandfather are veterans. She also inspired a Brownie troop to adopt a sailor from The Colony. She has a great support system that starts at home with her family as well as that of her troop leader, Jeanine Sharp.

Post 21 presented Josey with a Certificate of Appreciation during the October general meeting for her dedicated efforts to support veterans. When asked what’s on the horizon for her, Josey said she has a goal to create a badge in gun safety. There is no doubt she will accomplish this objective with her amazing “gun-ho” attitude.
