Post 35 gives Santa a helping hand

Columbus, GA

On Dec. 21 and 24, Charles S. Harrison Post 35 of Columbus, Ga., gave Santa a helping hand.
On Dec. 21 Mary Tisdel (local Toys for Tots director) made her second pickup from Post 35. This was the first year Post 35 participated in the Toys for Tots drive. The post was able to raise $200 and 200-plus toys for the drive. We look forward to helping again in 2020.

On Dec. 24 the Post 35 Family pulled together once again to try to make Christmas a little better for the firefighters and EMTs of the Columbus Fire Department. With a short notice our first annual Operation Christmas Cheer was a go; the Auxiliary and SAL members pulled together with the post and started to bake up a storm of cookies - those who could not bake bought and delivered to the post large cookie platters. Legionnaires and Auxiliary members were on hand packing the different bags with the goodies. Our state junior vice commander was on deck with her son, and after baking 100 cookies helped with packing and delivering. To the delight and surprise of the fire department, deliveries were made to all 14 fire stations in Columbus.
