Daniel R. Olsen Post 594 recognizes Flag Day

Eagan, MN

Members of Daniel R. Olsen American Legion Post 594 and Auxiliary Unit 594 conducted the 4th annual Eagan Flag Retirement Ceremony on June 14. This event was held at the Thomas Lake Park pavilion. Eight hundred and thirty-seven (837) flags had been gathered from the collection boxes at both the Eagan Community Center and the Eagan Sam’s Club. Following a respectful ceremony, all flags were inspected. Due to the current guidelines surrounding social distancing, the flags were not corner-folded as is usually done. Those deemed unserviceable were retired in the most dignified way utilizing a well-tended bonfire. Twenty-two (22) flags were found to be still serviceable and will be donated by the post to local schools, businesses and residents.

Unserviceable flags are added to the tended fire pit for dignified disposal.
