Veterans spreading hope and cheer

Selmer, TN

McNairy American Legion Post 162 of Selmer, Tenn., touched the heart and soul of veterans on Dec. 1, 2020. Post Chaplain Nathan Meek, 1st Vice Commander Lynn Conley, Jerry Wright and SAL member Greg Blakley delivered 15 45-lb. boxes of food to three homes of widows of veterans and a home of three teenagers of a veteran with both parents deceased ,with the cooperation of the local food pantry supplying the food. The other 11 boxes were dispersed to the elderly and needy in the community. Post 162 does this four times a year and the last delivery will be on Dec. 8, of 29 more boxes, before Christmas. The post does a "shout out" to the public for monetary help to provide this food, toys and hot takeout meals to many during this COVID-19 pandemic. At Thanksgiving five of the post's members helped prepare and deliver 1,697 meals. This was at a cost of $2,800. In the month of December we expect to deliver twice that amount of food and cost.
