Honoring the 100 from CT who lost their lives at the Battle of Iwo Jima

Bristol, CT

On Feb. 20, 2021, a group of people from the Iwo Jima Survivors group, along with American Legion Post 2, were met by the Buffalo Soldiers from Hartford in the cold at the base of the Iwo Jima Memorial on the New Britain/Newington town line. They were there to give honor to the memory of the 100 from Connecticut who lost their lives in the Battle of Iwo Jima.
Each post on the fence that surrounds the monument holds one plaque with the name of one soldier.
A new wreath was placed on the Iwo Jima monument by the Buffalo Soldiers. After the wreath was placed, four members of the Buffalo Soldiers took turns ringing the bell after each name of those listed on the plaques was read.
