American Legion Post 11 Riders score a couple of home runs for Hi-Line

Just so all you southern members (anyone south of Great Falls, Mont.) don’t think we are just up here prepping our igloos for winter, we thought we should pass on a couple more of our successful events. Hi-Line members are ambitious. There is nothing we won’t do to bring attention to our post and The American Legion. Our Riders group is very high-profile in town and the surrounding area. We make sure of it so that we attract new members young and old.

On Aug. 5, 2023, we, our Riders group and honor guard, were asked to assist with the opening of the American Legion Ball League's year-end tournament. This event was held in Havre with players and families from all over the USA and Canada. We were asked to ride our motorcycles around the perimeter of the ball field and then present the colors for the playing of the National Anthem! The players and families were thrilled, as were we!

At precisely 11 minutes after 9 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2023, our American Legion Riders from Post 11 concluded a special Remembrance Day for those who lost their lives, those who survived and the first responders who made the day even more memorable on 9/11. We had all "our" local heroes: Havre Police, Montana State Police, Hill County Sherriff's Department, Homeland Security and Border Patrol, Havre Fire Department, Havre EMTs and ambulance staff. What a day. The start was prayers by Chaplain Dwight Hauge and a special speech from Sgt.-at-Arms Bob Brewer. Our VFW honor guard presented colors (flags) and rifles, as did our club display military colors. Janet Heldt handed out donuts and coffee to all who attended. Quite a day on the Hi-Line! We ended the day with a special escort to the Bear Paw Mountains by the State Police. There was a moment of silence for those lost on 9/11/2001, and we rode back to town.

It is with a great deal of pleasure that the American Legion Post 11 Riders have the new Montana state Riders director, Brian (Carp) Carpenter, within our group. Carp is the current director of our chapter!
