Party of the Century

Ida Marie Levesque was born March 9, 1924. She graduated high school in 1942 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy and reported to the Naval Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida for specialized hospital training.

Ms. Ida was sent to the Instruction School for WAVES at Hunter College in New York City. She served as a First Class Hospital Apprentice. She was then sent to the Charleston Navy Shipyard Hospital as one of the first WAVES. Ms. Ida met and married a fellow sailor, and they were married for 39 years.

Ms. Ida had two children: A son, James Levesque, and a daughter, Dr. Gale Levesque. Gale is an Auxiliary member of Post 129

Ms. Ida is very proud of her Navy experiences and service to her country. She readily thanks all veterans for their service to our country. When asked if she could go back in time, would she follow the same path and enlist again, she quickly responded, "Yes!"

Ms. Ida is an active member of American Legion Post 129, Department of North Carolina. You will find her there every Wednesday playing trivia and most Thursdays for wing night.
