My Mother

My mother’s father served in World War 1 and later all the males in the family served in the military. (My grandfather had a bullet ricochet off his helmet and he gave me the helmet and when I left home. She gave it to the town museum). Every day she hung the flag in the morning and took it in at dusk.

When the church congregation wanted to quit displaying the flag she and a vet opposed it. She served in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

She was a strong supporter of President Obama and every month she sent $100 to the Wounded Warriors and she received certificates, and address labels. When she became ill my sister took everything to the lawyer (who just happened to be the same vet that opposed the church flag ordeal). He told her to stop my mother from sending anymore money to the Wounded Warriors because that money was being used for other purposes.
