A Posting to Post Everlasting

Post 174 - Willits, CA

Today American Legion Post 174 paid its last respects to our comrade, Roger Collar, as he reports to Post Everlasting. Roger Collar attained the age of 90 years and was a surviving member of the 501st Parachute Regiment, 101st Airborne Division serving from December 19, 1939 until July 4, 1945. A loyal friend and family member, he was a man dedicated to community service, crafting the flag poles for Willits High School, the Little League ball park and the one that stands less than 50 yards from his resting place. His passing has lessened our post and community and we will miss his cheerful smile and helpful spirit. Our sincerest condolences go out to his friends and family; may the good Lord console them in their grief and smile upon them with the same pleasant warmth as Roger smiled upon others. May our post’s members look to Roger Collar’s service to our community and nation as an example and take up his efforts and make them our own.

So long, old soldier, your footfalls may now be silent, but your service to your country and community will not be soon forgotten.

Robert Ireland – Post 174 (PUFL)
