Breakfast with Santa as part of holiday Adopt a Vet program for 9th year

CANTON, GA

Cherokee County Homeless Veteran Program, a subunit of American Legion Thomas M. Brady Post 45 in Canton Georgia, Auxiliary Unit 45 and American Legion Post 316 in Woodstock, Georgia, recently hosted over 250 veterans and their families for our ninth annual Breakfast with Santa at the Canton American Legion Post.

Santa, his wife and several elves assisted the many families who were there, not only for breakfast or to sit on Santa's lap, but also to share some holiday comradery. We had a great mix of homeless veterans, low-income veteran families who need support from the community and other veterans who came just to share the day and a meal with other veterans. We are so grateful for the community support we got for those who donated food, clothes and blankets to provide for those in need, noted Betty Lewis, Auxiliary Unit 45 commander.

Auxiliary Unit 45, under the leadership of Betty Lewis, also did a great job in working with obtaining sponsors for low-income, homeless, and shut-in veterans to provide holiday gifts and the Christmas meals for those who could not afford to provide Christmas for their families.

This year, the meal of pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs and coffee was provided by Sysco foods Veteran Outreach program. Capovilla and Williams law firm made up of former military lawyers also helped sponsor this year’s meal.
