Post 626 makes donation to local VAVS

Gladstone, MO

Commander Douglas Millison, a Kansas City VA volunteer, delivered Bennett & Dennis Herrick Memorial American Legion Post 626's Veterans Day donation of $300 worth of $10 quick trip gift cards to Melissa Jacobson, head of Voluntary Services. The post's Veteran Affairs & Rehabilitation Committee asks the VA Voluntary Services Department what they need most around Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Last week, Voluntary Services responded to the post that they were down to their last two gift cards, so the post stepped forward with this particular donation. These cards are distributed by VA social workers to veterans in need.

“This is one of the ways we distribute the donations we receive from Gladstone’s citizens during our Poppy Donation Days centered on Memorial and Veterans Days,” Millison said. “Their donations support programs and activities at the VA, the Missouri Veterans Homes in Cameron and Warrensburg, other organizations whose activities benefit the veteran, active-duty personnel and their families, as well as our own Veteran Service Programs. We are very grateful for the donations we receive, enabling us to forward those actions to where they will do the most good.”
