My dad was a WWII B-17 bombardier

Mount Holly, NC

My dad, Edward M. Berkland, served as a first lieutenant during WWII, stationed at Langley AFB, Va. Although he never saw combat, he did train other bombardiers in the B-17, and was one of the first bombardiers to use the Norden bombsight. His service inspired me to serve in bombers, although for me it was as an electronic warfare officer in the B-52G/H.

My father was a Legion member for over 50 years, serving in many capacities among which were post commander and district commander.
