Two years of walking

Cambridge, MA

On Aug. 7, 2022, two years after the 100 Miles for Hope campaign started, I am still going strong. Although I struggled at first to stay with my program, I remained committed to my daily walk of 4-5 miles. I have now walked a total of 2,200 miles, with the goal of reaching 3,000 miles next spring. I am proud to be a lifetime member of The American Legion, and I often walk to American Legion Post 442 next to the Charles River in Cambridge, Mass. I used to pass by the location many times without knowing what it was, but now I walk in and chat with my fellow veterans.
What have I learned from my daily walk these past two years? First, I have to be consistent in walking every day, rain or shine, day or night. Second, I must have the determination to continue day after day, month after month. Third, I should have a positive mentality, knowing that it’s good for my mind and body. Finally, walking instills confidence and pride in a healthy lifestyle.
We should redeem our time every day, in all that we do, making the most of the life which God has given us. We often hear, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift from God, which is why we call it the present.” How do you redeem the present time? Scripture teaches us, “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). I urge you to seek God and put your faith in Him, knowing that He holds the future!
