Sleep walking through boot camp

At the age of just 17, I joined the Naval Reserve. During that summer between my junior and senior year of high school, I went to boot camp at Great Lakes.

One of my memories of that experience I really don't have.

Let me explain. As a youngster, I often sleep walked, even going outside at night. These moments occurred when I was anxious about something, such as performing a job well.

I am told that in the middle of one night in the recruit barracks, I did it again. I got out of my top bunk and stood at attention next to my bunk. It was dark but another new sailor nearby, who was a light sleeper, saw me. He, too, got up and stood at attention. When he discovered he and I were the only ones who were standing there in the dark, he must have though I was loon! He climbed back into his bunk to finish his night's rest.

The next morning he told me what happened. Of course, I had no conscious memory of doing this. The only explanation I could offer was it had happened again.
