Finding religion in basic training

I grew up in the Methodist faith. That meant every Sunday the whole family attended church. As I grew older I distanced myself from that routine to the point that I stopped attending all together by high school. However, soon after arriving at boot camp in February 1970 at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, I began attending again. It wasn't because I felt lost and needed it at the time, it was because those who did not go to church had to clean the barracks.
