After graduating high school in 1965 I began visiting the military recruiters.
Everyone seemed so friendly and helpful. Especially the Air Force recruiter. That is when I decided to become a U. S. Air Force Airman.
After the testing and physicals were successfully completed, I was given a bus ticket to the Pittsburgh, PA airport and a plane ticket to Lackland AFB, TX.
When we got off the plane we were met by a rather short Staff Sargent who began yelling at us. We were called all sorts of names, calling us lower than whale excrement (I cleaned it up). He swore at us a lot and we felt quite belittled compared to how the recruiters talked to us.
As a matter of fact, I made note of his name because I planned to tell my recruiter about him.
Needless to say, by the time I got out of basic, I knew that the recruiter couldn’t give a crap. (I cleaned it up).
