June 1948 I enlisted at age 17. Sent to Grt Lkes Boot Camp. Was picked Acting Master at Arms. About 3/4 way through Boot camp and came down with German Measles. They took this 17 yr old boot to sick Bay Hospital. It was
late in the day and they put a gown on me and in bed I went. Short time later, a pretty young Ensign nurse came in to check me out. I recall she slipped her hand down under the gown to see if the prior attendents had
properly prepared me. As she slipped her hand on higher, my 17 year old eyes got bigger. Finally she withdrew her hand and said "Oh! you don't have your skivvies on". What a shock to a 17 year old.
