As part of basic training at Fort Knox, Ky., we assembled on the firing range to familiarize ourselves with the M-16 automatic rifle. The range officer’s voice bellowed over the loudspeaker: “I don’t want anyone to FIRE…” at which time a barrage of automatic weapons was heard. When the noise subsided, the range officer continued “…until I give the order!!”
