While training at MCRD boot camp in San Diego back in 1971, our drill instructor told us to ask our girlfriends or wives to mail us a piece of nylon panty hose to help add that high-gloss sheen to our dress shoes or boots. One guy's girlfriend sent him the whole panty hose. Because the package was a little big and the DI was suspicious of it, he made the recruit open it in front of all of us and of course we all got a laugh from it - but not as big a laugh as when the DI had him put them on and do a little dance for us!
