A New York veteran's story

Brooklyn, NY

I was born on March 2, 1976, in New York City. I am a veteran of the U.S. Army. My times in service were from Aug. 5, 1999, to July 9, 2004, discharged under honorable conditions. I completed basic training on Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., on March 16, 2000, and completed advanced individual training on April 28, 2000, to earn the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of 88M: Motor Transport Operator.
During my first half of military service, I served with the New York Army National Guard during the aftermath, rescue and recovery of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on America. During my remainder of military service, I served with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) during Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003-2004). My awards and decorations are the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, New York State Defense of Liberty Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Overseas Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals.
Since my honorable discharge, I have been very actively involved in the community, state and nation. On March 9, 2009, I joined The American Legion based on my eligibility during the Persian Gulf/GWOT Era. On May 28, 2012, I joined the Sons of The American Legion based on my great-grandfather's service in World War I. I am a very active dual member (16 with TAL and 13 with the SAL as of the 2024 membership year).
When I'm not with the American Legion Family, I advocate for veterans and their families and people with disabilities in our national transportation network. In addition, I also volunteer my time and service as a member of the Community Emergency Response Team under the New York City Office of Emergency Management (NYC Emergency Management). I am also a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Order of the Cootie, DAV and AMVETS. In closing, I will continue serving the community, state and nation until the day I transfer to the Supreme Commander.

For God and Country.
