Brown-Mabry American Legion Post 153 suicide prevention training, June 22, 2023

Be brave - learn how to ask the question

Poplar Bluff, MO

On June 22, 2023, Brown-Mabry American Legion Post 153, along with SSgt Eric Summers Detachment #1473, Marine Corps League in Poplar Bluff, were hosts to an evening of suicide prevention conducted by FCC Behavioral Health. The focus was an introduction to the American Legion "Be the One" program, and the suicide prevention training received was titled "Be Brave, Learn How to Ask the Question!" This training was open to the local community and veteran organizations. Attendees were taught how to effectively use the Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) method for helping someone who may be thinking of suicide and in crisis. It was an awesome evening of training; we had 22 in attendance, and each received a certificate from FCC as the newest group of QPR Gatekeepers. Special thanks to the presenters from FCC and to Chaplain Richard Rossi at Post 153!
