Be the One sign on Post 307's Howitzer trailer.

Are you the one?

Cumming, GA

Whether you are a veteran who needs help, or the veteran who can assist a fellow veteran in getting the resources he or she needs, Cumming's American Legion Post 307 is here to help. "Be the One" is both a national and a local theme, because suicide prevention needs everyone's help. Veterans are at 57% greater risk of suicide than those who haven't served.
Many veterans suffer from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and/or dark feelings in their current life, but one does not have to be a veteran to "Be the One." Spouses, non-veteran caregivers, civilians and family members each have the power to "Be the One" when it comes to saving a life.
First of all, The American Legion is open to membership to anyone who has served for any length of active duty with any military branch, anywhere. As for membership in Post 307, aside from fundraising events, parades, civics opportunities for students and gatherings, the post also provides access to help for veterans in need and comradeship for fellow veterans. Come to the Friday, Nov. 10 Veterans' Day celebration at City Center, and meet with other veterans.
Then at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13, visit us at our monthly post membership meeting at 6196 Suwanee Dam Rd. in Sugar Hill (just off Highway 20 near the Forsyth County line) and meet Howie Howitzer - our post's artillery mascot - as well as our new post commander, Harvey Menden. He would like to meet you . . . and all of us would like to hear your story.
