Saving Brian Hughes

sacramento, CA

My son Brian did two tours in Iraq and came back with PTSD and TBI. In April of this year, I received a long text from him that he was going to commit suicide. As a chaplain's helper at the Sacramento Valley VA, I was aware of VA'S crisis hotline. I immediately contacted the hotline and had them contact the local sheriff's department, who did a welfare check.
His weapons were removed, and he was admitted into a hospital for care. VA took over from the hospital and has him going to counseling. I think God, and my training through VA; I knew what to do.
