The GI Bill helped me obtain my Nursing degree

Cameron, TX

I am a Vietnam era veteran. I joined the Navy right out of high school and was sent to Great Lakes for Corps School. While there, I met my first love. One marriage, two kids, and one amicable divorce later, I needed to be able to support my young family. AND I wanted to go to college. I decided to obtain a degree in Nursing. I enrolled in the local college and applied for my GI Bill benefits. Between the GI Bill, working as a nurse's aide while raising my kids, and a school loan towards the end, I was able to complete my BSN. Five years later, I joined the Army Nurse Corps where I was able to fulfill my goal of working on Labor and Delivery. I also met my current husband, who was working in our ER at the time. We've been married over 30 years, so I guess you could say that the GI Bill has made a BIG impact on my life.
