The American Legion

The American Legion
by MSgt James W. Mayou, Retired

They realized something needed to be done,
Helped heal the wounds of World War I;
Each state has at least one Legion post,

Always supporting the military from coast to coast;
Motorcyclists riding for freedom and more,
Encouraging military families from shore to shore;
Raising money for scholarships, lending a hand,
Instilling American beliefs throughout this great land,
Creating trust and friendship, ready to make a stand;
Always providing for our youth with things like Boys State,
Never compromising to battle injustice and hate;

Legion Baseball in summer, just for fun,
Establishing ideals for every daughter and son;
Giving to the communities in time of need,
Increasing our awareness of the American Creed;
One hundred years of service is their claim to fame,
No one can extinguish the Legion flame.
