Fred Brock Post 828 sponsors SAPD Officer Ravven Brown

San Antonio, TX

SAN ANTONIO – (Sept. 19, 2023) – Continuing to support its veterans, the military and family members, Fred Brock American Legion Post 828, located on the city’s East Side, is sponsoring Ravven Brown in the start of her professional career as a boxer.

Brown is not only a highly accomplished boxer, but also represents the community as an officer with the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) and through her volunteer work.

Her motto is “Be for those who I never had growing up,” a motto she lives every day.

Brown has a passion for reaching troubled youth, according to her public relations manager Mandi Stores. She is a volunteer criminal justice teacher at Idea Nazim and speaks in area schools and youth corrections facilities.

“When Ravven isn’t working directly in the community, she’s training,” said Stores. “She was a nationally ranked amateur boxer, in not one but three elite female weight classes, and was a member of Team USA.”

Brown has fought in publicized bouts both nationally and internationally. She brought that same success to the professional boxing arena during Fiesta Mexicana held at the Boeing Center at Tech Port on Sept. 15, by earning a first-round knockout over her opponent Kavarcia Polk.

According to Brown, she was self-inspired to enter the sport.

“No one inspired me; I just came across the gym while working for the Eastside Boys and Girls Club and wanted to join to stay fit,” said Brown. “I never thought it would take me this far.”

She stated that her first professional win was fulfilling because of all the hard work and dedication she puts into and gives to the sport of boxing.

Originally from Atlanta, Brown moved to Texas to play basketball at the University of North Texas. Following her basketball career, she moved to San Antonio, where she found her passion in boxing.

“I want to thank Fred Brock Post 828. It’s special to me because my family is part of the post,” said Brown. “For the Post 828 organization to be filled with successful, disciplined and former military leaders wanting to help me on my journey inspires me to work harder. The unity makes me stronger knowing someone believes in me and my skill.”

Brown’s next bout is scheduled in November.

The mission of Fred Brock Post 828 is to enhance the well-being of San Antonio’s veterans, their families, the military and the community by its devotion to mutual helpfulness.
