John J. Morris Post 62 Publicity Committee presents first Americanism Award

Peoria, AZ

On March 11, 2024, the John J. Morris Post 62 in Peoria, Arizona, presented our publicity committee Americanism award for the first time. The committee discusses several options in Peoria, Arizona, for the honor. It will become a monthly award to a business in town that go above and beyond in supporting The American Legion purpose. While it can be big businesses or small businesses, the first winner was Walmart Cotton Crossing. They presented the post with about 2,500 signed Christmas cards to us for our 10,000 Cards for the Troops who are stationed overseas. Then they presented 50 Christmas stockings to us for our Polar Express Christmas event for children from Luke AFB and our Auxiliary Juniors. We solute this Walmart for their support of our post for our troops and youth of veterans. The committee is chaired by the post and includes other veterans, SAL, Auxiliary and Riders from our post. They have selected the winners for the next few months as we only meet every other month.

The Wall of Honor at Walmart Cotton Crossing, which highlights veterans who work at the store, worked previously at the store or are relatives of store employees. Quite a stirring presentation.
