Section of I-74 renamed for Gaultneys

LeRoy, Illinois - State Sen. Chapin Rose has announced that a section of Interstate 74 near LeRoy will be named in honor of the Gaultney brothers - Ralph, Leonard and David. A special ceremony will be held on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. at the LeRoy Veterans Wall of Honor at the Ruel Neal Post 79 American Legion. The public is invited. Distinguished guests from the state, city and all military organizations will be in attendance. The three Gaultney brothers lost their lives during WWII. Ralph (Navy) died Dec. 24, 1941, in hospital from wounds received during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Leonard (Navy) was lost Aug. 9, 1942, when his ship USS Vincennes was sunk during battle in the Solomon Islands. David (Marines) died during battle on Iwo Jima Mar. 3, 1945.
