Wyoming proudly heralds new veterans memorial

Casper, WY

A year ago this November, Casper Legion Post 2 celebrated the completion of the Wyoming Fallen Veterans Memorial.
Originally begun as an update to an existing but out-of-the-way memorial, the project morphed into a new monument with a more visible and accessible location. Near Fort Caspar, the Central Wyoming Rodeo & Fairgrounds, the site is on West 13th Street, which runs along the picturesque North Platte River.
The memorial consists of a 16’ arch with its title, “Wyoming Fallen Veterans.” There are currently 1,560 Wyoming veterans’ names listed on five 4’x6’ panels – veterans who served on behalf of the United States and died in a combat zone from the Spanish-American War through the post-9/11 global war on terrorism. On three flagpoles overlooking the arch fly the American flag, the Wyoming state flag and the Gold Star Family flag. There are four steel silhouettes depicting a female soldier saluting, a bugler, a Gold Star mother and child, and the Battlefield Cross.
Post 2 is indebted to the generous people and companies of the community, along with a grant from AARP, who proudly supported this project.
