Commander Willian Scafe and Vice Commander Steve Tharp of Lewis L. Millett American Legion Post 38 attended the 56th Truck Ambush Incident Memorial Ceremony at Camp Bonifas, South Korea, on April 12, 2024. Camp Bonifas is a United Nations Command (UNC) military post located 400 meters (1,300 feet) south of the southern boundary of the Korean Demilitarized Zone. The 56th Truck Ambush Incident Memorial Ceremony honored the four UNC soldiers who were killed in action during the Truck Ambush also known as the Easter Ambush on Easter Sunday, April 16, 1968. The memorial ceremony honored the ultimate sacrifice of Sgt. James L. Anderson, Spc. Larry M. Wood, Cpl. Lee Son Kyoo and Pfc. Kim K. Hong.

On Easter Sunday, April 14, 1968, Korean People’s Army (KPA) soldiers ambushed a UNC truck transporting UNC relief guard to the Joint Security Area (JSA) and Neutral Nation (Swiss/Swede) camp. The KPA soldiers, using small arms, automatic weapon fire and hand grenades, succeeded in stopping the truck and attempted to kill all six soldiers aboard. They withdrew across the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) after killing four of the soldiers (two U.S. and two ROKA) and wounding the remaining two soldiers.
