On Monday, July 18, members of Balfour-Cole Post 64, Smithfield, R.I., paused to honor and remember Alexander M. Balfour, one of the two World War I soldiers for whom the post is named.
Private Balfour was declared missing in action, presumed dead, on this day in 1918. His name is on the tablet of the missing at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau Wood, France.
