Scouts prepare to deliver unserviceable U.S. flags to the ceremonial fire.

Flag retirement ceremony

Worth, IL

The Legion Family of Marrs-Meyer Post 991 in Worth, Ill., joined with local scouts to hold a U.S. flag retirement ceremony at dusk on Friday, October 18, 2019. The entire community was encouraged to attend to learn about the proper procedure for retiring our nation's colors. This event was helpful for our local youth to learn what they are no longer taught in public schools.

The Color Guard from Post 991 presents the colors to begin the ceremony while SAL members tend the fire.

SAL member Jim Borgman, acting as senior vice for the ceremony, hands the microphone to Curt Miller, Post and ceremony Commander.

Post Sr. Vice Tim Muersch places a flag in the fire as SAL Commander Glenn Kraemer waits with the next flag for retirement.

Scouts and community members look on during the ceremony.

Respectful retirement by burning.

Post, Sons and Auxiliary members from Post 991 working together for another successful event.
