My beloved Post 472

Struthers, OH

Hi. My name is Terry. I'm a female vet. My legion accepted me with open arms, I worked alongside the Auxiliary not because I had to, but because I wanted to. Those ladies are the best! They could at the last moment make a meal fit for 50 kings and queens. They also had fantastic veterans and children's parties - basically, any event. That's not to say they didn't also do community work as well and provide meals for repass. The Legion Riders participated in community charity runs and food donations. I could go on and on. But what you didn't see was how many times someone needed help, or someone was depressed or crying, and another member would be there for them. Our mental health organizations are hard to get help from, and months to get appointments. We had each other. I'm not saying everyone got along all the time, but you knew if you went there someone would have a nonjudgmental answer for you. We were more than a drinking hole - we were family. We took pride in the way our building and outdoors looked. For me, I can say that during my darkest time after my husband died and I joined this Legion, they brought back my trust in humanity. We are temporarily closed now, but we all try to stay in touch. We still continue to try to do good for the community. The spirit of Legion Post 472 is still in us.
