Small post doing big things in Texas

Hamilton, TX

Cunningham Post 222 in Hamilton, Texas, entered a float in the DOVEFEST Parade (opening of dove-hunting season) on Sept. 2, 2023, and had a booth at the town square to promote the Legion. This small-town post (47 active members) is very active in the community. They were very instrumental in having a Hamilton County Veteran's Memorial erected in their town. Bricks may be purchased from the post to be placed at the memorial.

Every year on the 11th hour (France time) of the 11th day of the 11th month, they have an anvil shoot at the post at 5 a.m. (local) sharp. If you've never been, they stick two anvils atop each other with a powder charge in between them and ignite it with a red-hot rod. These are the original blacksmith anvils that were fired in Hamilton on Armistice Day, Nov. 11, 1918, to announce the end of the Great War throughout the Pecan Creek Valley.
